GCSE results improve in Haringey for seventh year
Grades at GCSE level have improved for the seventh year in a row across Haringey’s schools, reports have shown.
Some 72 per cent of students achieved five or more A* to C grades and almost half (48 per cent) managed these grades in English and maths. Last year’s pass rate was 69.7 per cent. Pass rates in Haringey schools have improved by nearly a fifth (19.5 per cent) for results including English and Maths since 2003, and by 33 per cent overall over the same period.
Councillor Claire Kober, leader of the council, was keen to heap praise onto teachers as well as students. She said: “Congratulations to students across the borough who have achieved such excellent results. Well done too, to all the teachers, staff, parents and guardians who have supported our young people through their studies.
“As was the case with our A-levels, these results mean yet another year on year improvement performance. The results are the best demonstration possible of what can be achieved when schools work together to improve attainment and match the ambitions of young people in Haringey.”
These GCSE results in Haringey follow earlier announcements of improved A-Level results in the borough. For A-Levels, the average pass rate was 98.2 per cent, compared with 97.8 per cent in 2009. The national average was 97.6 per cent for 2010 for students passing grades A* to E.
